WHAT PRODUCTS AND SERVICES DO YOU OFFER? IS VOICETRACK ENGLISH ONLY?

PromptSmart Pro is available for purchase in the iOS App Store and in the Google Play Store. These sister apps are of equivalent functionality and support only the English language.

PromptSmart ESP is available only in the iOS App Store and can be bundled with our iOS Pro product. The ESP teleprompter app supports the Spanish language. Our customer support is capable of communicating in Spanish as well. Se habla Español. The ESP product is not yet connected to our subscription service, PromptSmart Extended.

We also offer an optional subscription service called PromptSmart Extended for $1.99/mo, free to try for the first month. Extended subscribers are given access to our iOS remote control and Android remote control apps. Extended subscribers also enjoy cross-compatibility of your scripts using our File Sync service. One subscription will push your script content to any iOS or Android device logged into your Extended account. Notecard files are not compatible across platforms due to technical restrictions.

For our iOS users, we offer a free trial version of our PromptSmart Pro product called PromptSmart Lite. This free app is highly rated and allows you to get a feel for the user experience with VoiceTrack and with the PromptSmart app generally prior to upgrading to Pro.

WHAT PLATFORMS AND DEVICES ARE SUPPORTED?

For our iOS users, VoiceTrack is supported on iPhone versions 5+ and iPad version 2+, iPad minis, and iPad Pros in both portrait and landscape mode.

For our Android users, our PromptSmart Pro product is supported on myriad devices, operating systems, and screen sizes. We designed the Android teleprompter app to be flexible to the demands of the variety of devices out there. The minimal Android OS we support, however, is KitKat 4.4.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SCRIPTS AND NOTECARDS?

Scripts are fully written-out speeches, Notecards are more synthesized key points (potentially an outline) of a speech.

Scripts and notecards are treated differently in PromptSmart, as there is functionality that is specific to each. For example, Scripts have various scroll options (including VoiceTrack™), and Notecards have functionality to delineate and rearrange the digital notecards.

CAN I CUSTOMIZE MY SPEECH'S TEXT?

Yes, you can choose font, font size and color. Notecards go one step further and support rich text editing.

DOES PROMPTSMART SUPPORT IMPORTING OF FILES? WHY CAN'T I LOGOUT?

Yes, you can seamlessly import .DOCX, .GDOC, and .TXT files from Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive. Coming soon we are expanding our supported document types to .PDF and .RTF.

Also, "copy to PromptSmart" directly from within the Gmail and generic Mail apps on iOS.

CAN I MAKE AN AUDIO/VIDEO RECORDING OF MY SPEECH?

Yes! PromptSmart now offers both audio and video recording capabilities.

Video recording offers a number of options including camera type (front or rear-facing), orientation (portrait or landscape),and resolution (i.e. 480p, 720p or 1080p depending on your device).

All files save into the Recording Library which is accessible from the PromptSmart homescreen. Videos also save directly to your camera roll in a folder called PromptSmart.

You can also upload your recordings directly from the app to Google Drive, One Drive, Box, DropBox or export to other services which link up with your camera roll.

DO I NEED AN INTERNET CONNECTION TO DELIVER A SPEECH?

No, since PromptSmart does not require an internet connection, you can use it anywhere (just be sure to download any needed files before you go off the grid!).

CAN I MIRROR THE TEXT SO I CAN USE WITH TELEPROMPTER GLASS?

Yes! PromptSmart Pro comes stock with a mirror-text feature that reflects properly against beam-splitting glass used in teleprompter rigs. The setting must be toggled in the script settings menu. Then, start your presentation (press the play button) and place your device beneath the glass with the text at the bottom of the screen lined up with the bottom of the glass.

HOW CAN I OPTIMIZE MY EXPERIENCE WITH VOICETRACK?

VoiceTrack™ is a complex voice recognition system. It listens to your voice and matches the words you say to the text in your speech. As you can imagine, VoiceTrack™ needs to hear your voice to work properly. Here are the strategies we’ve found work best:

In December of 2017 we released an updated version of VoiceTrack, version 2.0. This new version allows users to glide through numbered lists, bulleted lists, blank lines, or lines with only single words on them. The user experience of VoiceTrack 2.0 is optimized for the larger fonts (i.e., larger than the default font) and we also increased the largest available font size on iPad devices. The user experience and scrolling behavior can change depending on the script content, the screen size, the font, and the font size. We recommend mixing and matching these variables until you achieve a "sweet spot" that works for you.

A main feature of VoiceTrack 2.0 is that users no longer have to re-format documents to optimize VoiceTrack -- it's more of a plug-and-play feature that is versatile and saves you time. Occasionally when similar words or phrases appear in the script, VoiceTrack may skip forward. This can be mitigated by following the guidelines (below), by changing the word to something different, or by adding a space to move the similar phrases further away from each other on the screen.

Optimal speaking environment guidelines

  • Limit ambient noise. For the iPad especially, a lot of extra noise reduces recognition accuracy. Use VoiceTrack™ in a relatively quiet environment. If ambient noise is unavoidable, you may want to consider using an external mic, preferably a uni-directional mic that can pick up the speaker's voice and tune out the "noise". Ensure that any microphone purchase is compatible with the particulars of your device.
  • Turn off the music. Music shares very similar characteristics to voice and can confuse VoiceTrack – even if it’s in the background.
  • Echoes are very disruptive and can negatively impact scrolling accuracy.

Make sure VoiceTrack can hear your words: Speak clearly and be mindful of the device’s microphone

  • Do not speak during the "loading" period - At this time, VoiceTrack is surveying the ambient noise to filter out as much as possible. If you speak during this period, it will try to suppress your voice as well.
  • Enunciate each syllable of every word and project your voice. If you speak clearly, VoiceTrack will have an easier time deciphering your speech thereby improving recognition. Projecting need not mean speaking loudly: Instead, think of whispering so that someone across the room can hear you.
  • The microphone should be unobstructed and/or facing you. Anything that covers the device may also cover the mic pick-up and muffle your voice. The accuracy of VoiceTrack scrolling is only as good as the input.
  • Distance to your device will limit recognition as most mobile devices, even large iPads, are designed to be hand-held. If you need to use PromptSmart at a distance (more than 5' away), please use an external microphone. For more information on microphone use, please see our blog post on the subject here.

Spell out numbers and symbols, eliminate non-spoken characters, check carefully for typos

  • For example, $1,000,000 should be displayed like so: "one million dollars"
  • Any other characters or symbols like & ("and") % ("percent"), or # ("hashtag") should be represented as spoken words. VoiceTrack can work around the symbols, but including them in your scripts will invite mistakes.
  • Any numbered lists should be read aloud. For example, if the speaker sees: 1. First item, it should be read like "One. First item." VoiceTrack 2.0 is flexible and can tolerate the speaker ignoring the number and saying "First item" only or if the talent says "number one," instead of "one," but these variances invite error and can contribute to scrolling hiccups.
  • Misspelled words or typos can cause scrolling errors because VoiceTrack is looking for something other than the speaker's delivered remark.

DOES PROMPTSMART REQUIRE ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT?

No, however some users may find microphones and/or iPad stands helpful.

HOW DO STAGE DIRECTIONS WORK?

Our PromptSmart Extended subscription contains a feature that tells VoiceTrack to ignore content formatted between angled brackets. As a word of caution, however, readable text that is “book-ended” by blank lines or stage directions, and that readable text is three words or less, VoiceTrack may not be able to recognize it. Example:

Hi there!

We recommend manual scrolling if possible in these instances or advancing through the script using the remote control.

DOES PROMPTSMART SUPPORT WIRELESS MICROPHONES?

Currently VoiceTrack and wireless microphones are incompatible due to technical limitations. We are evaluating this incompatibility for future software.

Users often rave about their experience with simple wired microphones, like lavalier lapel mics and simple extension cords of up to 20' away.
